How this calculator works

We divide your annual salary by your total working hours for the year (hours per week × weeks worked) to get your gross hourly rate. We then run your salary through the standard Income Tax, National Insurance and student loan calculations and divide your take-home pay by the same number of hours to get your net hourly rate. Frequently asked questions

How do I convert my salary to an hourly rate?

Divide your annual salary by your total working hours for the year (your usual hours per week multiplied by the number of weeks you work). That gives you your gross hourly rate.

What's the difference between gross and net hourly rate?

Your gross hourly rate is your salary divided by hours worked, before any deductions. Your net (after-tax) hourly rate divides your take-home pay, after Income Tax, National Insurance and student loan repayments, by the same number of hours.

Does this work for part-time salaries?

Yes. Enter your actual annual salary and your actual part-time hours per week, and the calculator will work out your true hourly rate for the hours you contract to.
